Sleep plays a fundamental role in all aspects of our general health, wellbeing and daily living. Shannon's passion is to share her expertise to firstly educate people on the role and importance of sleep, and secondly to give people the tools to change their behavior to get the most out of their sleep!

At Sleep Lab, Shannon provides a pragmatic approach for her clients, where she combines the scientific research with people's lifestyle and goals to tailor the package to each individual client.
In 2018, I completed my PhD at the University of Waikato, where I researched the role and relationship of sleep in elite female athletes. I also have an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Health, Sport and Human Performance.
I've been involved in high performance sport for over 5 years, where I've had roles with the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic netball team as their Performance Analyst, worked as a recovery and performance lead for the professional Blackwings Ice Hockey team in Austria, as well as consulting about sleep and recovery to smaller organisations.
I have previously worked in the academic space at Waikato University teaching into the Human Performance Science degree and managing our sport science labs. Through these academic roles I've been fortunate to present research at a number of conferences, review research for a variety of journals and supervise Masters and PhD students on their research projects.
Outside of 'work' I love the outdoors! You'll often find me out mountain biking, walking in the redwoods with my two dogs (Hugo & Bernard - they'll make regular appearances on the gram!), or in the summer months on the water. If I'm not outside, I'll happily be lost in a good book with a coffee in hand :)
